Painted tile fragment from the Parthian-Roman city of Dura Europos, early to mid 3rd century AD. It was from the ceiling of the “house of scribes” and carries the Greek inscription, Heliodoros, and his occupation, “actuarius”. Dura Europos was a noted cultural “melting pot” city where many nationalities, religions and artistic styles mixed.
