I’ll reluctantly refer back to fantasy, only for lack of much familiarity with dystopian sci-fi, but this scene came to mind.

"Sam looked at him and wept in his heart, but no tears came to his dry and stinging eyes. 'I said I'd carry him, if it broke my back,' he muttered, 'and I will!'

"'Come, Mr. Frodo!' he cried. 'I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you and it as well. So up you get! Come on, Mr. Frodo dear. Sam will give you a ride. Just tell him where to go, and he'll go.'"

I imagine Hilary knows she’s got a quite a bunch of Sams reading her posts who aren’t going to let her do this alone.

"But again I am remembering something from Tolkien; what if the Palantir I’ve been looking in has been tainted by Sauron, set up to show me things that, while true, are only the bad, scary things, to push me into a madness of despair and grief?"

Yes, this is how I've thought of it for years. People who haven't figured this out, I think, tend to try to deny the undeniable evils because they see no way of handling the reality, either psychologically or spiritually. And often, because they see that their friends or relatives who recognize these evils often become very negative and critical people.

The hard thing is to look at the world and know what is going on, and keep looking at Christ and trusting in Him, keeping your interior peace, avoiding despair, escapism or just numbness.

Absolutely, how many times are we told in the Holy Scriptures to fear not, and to trust. Easier said than done unless we can attain to detachment from the world, as the Father's and Christ admonish. Its a challenge, good job we are not expected to do it on our own.

1. The hypothesis that the covid pandemic has due to a Fauci-funded lab leak was smeared as a racist conspiracy theory. It is now back on the table. We were forbidden to consider it. It was "misinformation". Maybe it's true, maybe not. Yet, if it is true, the very man the media had turned into our sainted guide through this disaster had his hand in causing this disaster.

2. The 60 minutes segment on young people being literally mutilated in irrevocable ways due to an insane "gender" ideology. I couldn't watch the whole thing. It was horrifying.

These are only the latest examples of our madness. Somehow, whatever residual trust that I had in this system (not much, as it turns out) was lost utterly.

What comes next?
