"the ox - the Jews - and the ass - the gentiles" -- Oh but this is informative.
I'm American and we're a funny bunch. Even the "Trads" fight amongst themselves here, so far have we fallen from the intentions of those who Founded this country. If you want proof, just watch the replies this comment will get.
I absolutely love getting notes like this, thank you. When you write about this stuff it's because you're enthused and fascinated, and you sit down and tick away at the computer and wonder if anyone can really "catch" that enthusiasm and excitement from what you're writing. Feeling like you're the only one is a bit of an occupational hazard for writers.
This was beautifully written, Hilary. Thanks. Sharing with my protestant family as a wonderful history lesson. I was also wondering about the ox and ass, aside from knowing that they are in that really slow Christmas song. I'm slowly adding to a Fontanini Nativity set and decided those were the next most important.
Very well written and informative. Thank you.
Wonderful, timely, much appreciated.

Thank you! Read this aloud to my teenager and husband while looking at our nativity set.

These things can lead you into a deeper understanding of Scripture, and all it describes, and to a deeper connection to God, if you follow the trail.
What do you think the nativity scene would look like if it were set in the 21st century??
